| Train No. 2 on the Whitehall Division.
Train No. 2, powered by a pair of Alco Century 424 units, heads
towards Merrillan.  The lead unit, #311 was the first C-424 on the
railroad, delivered new in 1963.  The trailing unit is a
second-hand Conrail locomotive acquired in 1980.  Subtle
differences between the two engines include the three dynamic brake air
intake openings along the top of the second loco.  The brakes were
not installed on the locos when they were on the GB&W. Bob Gile took this photo just east of Merrillan, Wis., which the
junction with the Chicago & North
        Western (ex- Omaha Road).
In the 1980s, Merillan served as a crew change point between Green Bay
crews and those who worked the remained of the line west to Winona,
        Minn. |
